On October 15, H.E. Cardinal Pizzaballa stepped into the Vatican Radio studios for an interview about the past, present and future of the Church and the Faithful in Gaza and the Holy Land.
“There is still much to do. The situation remains dramatic because everything is destroyed. People are returning, but they are returning to the ruins. Hospitals are not functioning; schools do not exist. There is still the matter of the bodies of the deceased Israeli hostages that must be recovered. This is not simple, since in the chaos that has taken place, the locations of these bodies have often been lost. The mistrust between the parties remains high. However, despite all this, there is a new atmosphere — still fragile, but we hope it will become more stable.”
In this interview, the Latin Patriarch speaks of peace and conflict, hope and rebuilding, the fragile situations of the community, and the future of pilgrimages.
We highly recommend reading the interview in its entirety. Also included is a link to the official statement from the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches.
