Las Vegas Area

About the Area

The Archdiocese of Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing and youngest Catholic dioceses in the United States. Along with our suffragan diocesan communities in Salt Lake and Reno, we are blessed with Archbishop George Leo Thomas’s, KCHS leadership during this period of change and growth. The EOHSJ in Las Vegas has seen tremendous growth as well. In addition to our Prior, Archbishop Thomas, our Las Vegas Council members include Auxiliary Bishop Gregory Gordon KCHS; Bishop Emeritus Joseph Pepe KCHS; Bishop Richard Higgins KCHS, USAF (ret.); twenty (18) Knight Chaplain priests; two Knight Chaplain deacons; and one hundred twenty-nine (129) Knights and Dames.

Our spiritual activities in the Las Vegas Council are anchored by our monthly rosaries at various parishes throughout the Archdiocese. Our committees include Spiritual, Member Engagement, and Legacy. We meet formally twice a year for planning purposes. Mid-Year Meetings are every March and are preceded by Holy Mass and robed member Procession.

Our leadership takes very seriously the Order’s goal of personal sanctification. We believe that this is best achieved as a community and therefore provide our members multiple opportunities throughout the year for spiritual growth in the Order.

As the EOHSJ is not an island, we encourage and support all activities of our local parishes and Archdiocese. We look for potential members among those Catholics who do the same. Of course, our mission remains larger than our local parishes. As a Council, we are committed to not only providing funding for the Latin Patriarchal missions but also extending our community to include our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. Our members actively engage with the seminarians that we also support financially. Whether it be disabled children, the nuns who serve them, or the Palestinian Catholic community, putting real faces into our mission, in our view, is crucial.

Most of our general communication is done via the “Constant Contact” platform. We also have a local Facebook group page, in which we post or re-post (local events) pictures as well as Order-centric news and articles.

In 1965, the Council Fathers of Vatican II proclaimed a “Universal Call to Holiness” for all Catholics, bringing the Universal Church in line with the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre’s call to holiness since 1099 A.D.
